THE BLESSING OF THE LORD

Genesis 26:12, "Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him."

Isaac had now found political and social peace in Gerar so he began to focus upon investing in the land. The bible clearly tells us in the very first year that Isaac received a crop of an hundredfold. This was not due, however, to Isaac's great farming expertise, but rather due to the blessing of the LORD. One commentator mentions, "it was very extraordinary, that there should be such a plentiful crop produced on Isaac's ground, when there was such barrenness elsewhere."

God can do the impossible, and His blessing is not something we should take lightly. The Lord knows what is best for us, yet this blessing of Isaac was the result of God extending His grace and mercy to him. I believe that each of us experience the blessing of the Lord simply because we are His children and we are seeking to glorify Him. We may not be given the same quantitative numbers as is given here, but God's blessing is upon us.  I had a truck battery that I exchanged out that was 13 years old.  I believe the age of that battery was due to the blessings of the Lord.

Don't ever forget the words of the song writer, Civilla Martin, "Be not dismayed what e're be - tide, God will take care of you. Beneath His wings of love abide; God will take care of you."

Psalm 3:8, "Salvation belongeth unto the LORD: thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah."

QUESTIONS TO PONDER

1.  Can you see God at work in your life?

2.  Are any blessings in your life produced by your superior efforts?  Who is the source of all blessings?

3.  How should you respond when God brings evident blessings into your life?

4.  Name a recent blessing from the Lord, and take a moment to thank Him for that blessing?
