Who Can Find A Faithful Man?

Proverbs 20:6, "Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?"

Our own perspective always seems to be the right perspective from our personal viewpoint. It is therefore easy to fall into a trap of thinking that we are pretty good. Maybe even view ourself as better than some others. Honestly, when it comes right down to it, we are all sinners who need a Saviour. Yes, there are those who outwardly manifest their sinfulness more than others, but still "...all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23)

What I need is to be repentant of my sin, understanding the need for salvation, but also daily forgiveness and cleansing. Once I'm saved the Lord speaks about my daily forgiveness and cleansing in 1 John 1:9, "If we confess our sins (plural), he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." So rather than proclaiming my goodness I should rather seek God's daily forgiveness and be sure to walk as faithfully as I can. For the question of the day is: "...a faithful man who can find?" People tooting their own horn are a dime a dozen, but men and women who walk faithfully before the LORD are hard to find! A faithful person is one who is trustworthy and dependable.

May we be faithful, and Lord help us to mentor others to this place. 2 Timothy 2:2, "And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also."

Meditations

1. Do you tend to speak about your own goodness? Why is this so?

2. Do you typically have a higher opinion of yourself than what is realistic?

3. Are you quick to acknowledge sin when it creeps into your life? How do you deal with said sin?

4. Describe how you are faithful to the Lord. What needs to improve?
