God's Name is Holy
Leviticus 22:32-33, "Neither shall ye profane my holy name; but I will be hallowed among the children of Israel: I am the LORD which hallow you, That brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: I am the LORD."
Everything God does is a reflection of His character or His attributes. In Leviticus 22 God outlines several laws regarding the priests and sacrifices, all of which are given with the intention that God's honor be preserved. All of the Christian life should be lived with God's holiness and greatness in view. To profane something is to make it common, it is to violate the honor associated with that which is to be honored, it is to defile or pollute something. God is HOLY! Holiness is His chief attribute, it is central to all the what know about God. I believe all of His other attributes flow from His attribute of holiness. The seraphim angels in Isaiah's vision cried, "Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory." (Isaiah 6:3) Jesus acknowledged the very truth of God's hallowed place in His model prayer, "Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name..." (Matthew 6:9)
Now how can we best express the hollowed position God has in our lives? In the same manner as the Israelites of old, by obeying God's commandments. I don't believe God is hallowed in the hearts of the disobedient. The special place of our Hallowed God is the place of primacy, Colossians 1:18, "And He (Christ) is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence."
The blood of Christ cleanses us from all sin, the Spirit of God is a sanctifying Spirit, the truth of God’s Word sanctifies us, therefore we must be a people who live life demonstrating the hallowed place God has in our hearts by living in obedience to His commands. Don't allow yourself to become defiled by the things of this world, live in obedience to the Lord, and make His praise great in your life.
"Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name...."
