The Light of the Lord
2 Samuel 22:29 "For thou art my lamp, O LORD: and the LORD will lighten my darkness."
The 22nd chapter of 2 Samuel is also recorded in Psalm 18 and is a song David composed celebrating deliverance from his enemies. Many things could be written from this song, however, verse 29 spoke to my heart, "For thou art my lamp, O LORD: and the LORD will lighten my darkness."
What lightens the path of your life? People often look to things that bring an element of joy or happiness into their lives but it can't be compared to the light God brings into your life. People find an element of joy in their possessions, in their employment, in their money, or even their children and/or grandchildren. But what truly is your light? I hope it is the LORD!!!
In the Scriptures light is an image of prosperity, success, happiness, and holiness, while darkness is the image of poverty, failure, sadness, and depravity. The Lord my God will enlighten my darkness. God will shed light on my path, which would otherwise be dark: He will impart light to my understanding; will put peace and joy in my heart; will crown me with his favor. I can't even begin to think of how awful life would be without the LORD, and how dark my path would be in this difficult time. God's Word also lightens our path. Psalm 119:105, "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." Psalm 119:130, "The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple."
May we walk daily in the light of God, and in the light of His Word. What a fitting message on Halloween, a day that celebrates everything dark and demonic.
