Being Genuine

1 Kings 14:6, "...Come in, thou wife of Jeroboam, why feignest thou thyself to be another?  for I am sent to thee with heavy tidings."

Today's verse speaks of a situation where King Jeroboam sent his wife to the prophet Ahijah.  Ahijah had brought the good news that God had made Jeroboam king over the 10 northern tribes of Israel, so he assumed Ahijah might give him good news concerning his son Abijah who was sick. Jeroboam asked his wife to disguise herself and go to the prophet bearing gifts hoping to hear good news, but God had a different plan and it began by having the prophet point out the frauds that her and her husband were.  "Why feignest thou thyself to be another?"  God wants us to be genuine when we approach Him, and as we live our lives before others.  King David practiced genuineness when he invited God to scrutinize his life, he prayed, "Search me, O God, and know my heart, try me, and know my thoughts. And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting." (Psalm 139:23-24)

Are you genuine?  Are you real?  Or are you feigning yourself to be another?  I have had people tell me they were walking with God when it was obvious such was not true.  Who do they think they are fooling?  The Lord knows all, He sees all, and He hears all, and He expects genuineness.  May we live in the honesty and integrity of being the person God desires us to be.  Be real, be genuine, and don't feign yourself to be something or someone you are not.
