God's Hand On Our Life

1 Kings 18:46, "And the hand of the LORD was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel."

Barnes' Notes on the Bible states:  "Divinely directed, and divinely upheld, Elijah, instead of resting, ran in advance of the king's chariot the entire distance of at least 16 miles to the entrance of Jezreel. He thus showed himself ready to countenance and uphold the irresolute monarch, if he would turn from his evil courses, and proceed to carry out the religious reformation which the events of the day had inaugurated."  Elijah's great victory in the face of the 450 prophets of Baal wasn't because of Elijah's power or strength but came from God's power and strength.

What does having the hand of God upon our life allow?

  • It is a blessing that allows us to have more than common strength of body.

  • It also provides an element of spiritual power that otherwise one would not know.

  • God's hand upon us cultivates courage and fortitude of heart.

God's hand is a powerful hand, God's hand is omnipotent!  The song says "He's got the world in His hand." I hope
you desire to have God's hand upon your life.  That you desire His power be manifested to you and on your behalf. May we pray daily for God's hand to be upon us, our families, and our church.

"And the hand of the LORD was on Elijah..." is His hand upon you?

Pastor Abbott
