Ezra's Mission Statement

Ezra 7:10, "For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the LORD, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments."

It is important that we live our lives on a mission. Mission speaks of a particular act or focus and accomplishment. A missionary is sent with the purpose of evangelizing the lost, discipling those who are saved, and starting churches in the places where he is serving the Lord. My mission as a pastor is to exalt the LORD, to edify others, and to seek to evangelize the lost, all to the glory of God. I know my mission, and I seek to accomplish it daily. You have to have a mission, a purpose for which you live your life. Ezra's mission statement was clear, he had prepared his heart to accomplish his mission:

  • Ezra was going to seek the law of the LORD. He wasn't running from God's will and Word but he was seeking God's Word!

  • Ezra was going to do his best to live the law of God. He was intent on "doing" the will of God as expressed in God's law. He was going to respond in obedience.

  • Ezra was going to teach others. He wanted to influence as many other people for God as possible. He was going to impart what he had learned into others. For the good and benefit of others, but primarily for the exaltation of the LORD.

Simply put, what is your mission statement? Are you living for the purpose of glorifying God? Are you seeking to exalt God, to edify others, and evangelize the lost? Whatever your purpose I trust you know it and that you will prepare your heart to accomplish God's purpose in your life.
