God's Majesty & Power

Job 26:12, "He divideth the sea with his power, and by his understanding he smiteth through the proud."

One thing cannot be denied, our God reigns supreme.  Job expresses the truth concerning God's power and understanding in today's verse.  There are those who teach this verse is evidence that Job was written after the Red Sea experience of Moses and the children of Israel sense it states "He divideth the sea with his power..."  I don't believe that to be the case, I believe rather this is a statement that points back to the time of Creation (see Genesis 1:6-10).  It is remarkable to think of God's power being so great that He simply spoke the words and the waters were divided upon the entire face of the earth, "And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good."

The word "proud" in today's verse is the Hebrew "Rehab" meaning pride, blusterer or storm.  You see God has the power and the understanding to do with water what He desires when He desires and He also has the ability to do with the proud whatever He desires.  It isn't a matter of difficulty for our God to divide water or to calm the raging storm.  Jesus again spoke those words as the disciples were fearful for their lives, they woke Jesus out of a deep sleep, and by His power and understanding Mark 4:39 says, "And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm."

Can you see God today in His power, His understanding, and His majesty?  Our God Reigns Supreme!!!!

QUESTIONS TO PONDER

1. God hates pride. What does it mean to you when Job states, “…by his (God’s) understanding He smiteth through the proud?” The word “through” is not a misprint.

2. God sees all. How should this truth impact the way you live?
