The Blessings of God
Ezekiel 34:26, "And I will make them (God's flock) and the places round about my hill a blessing; and I will cause the shower to come down in his season; there shall be showers of blessing."
God promises His people "...I will cause the shower to come down in his season; there shall be showers of blessing. We sing songs in church, but often don't realize the Biblical truth behind the song. Think about the song, "There Shall Be Showers of Blessing," written by Daniel Whittle in 1883 and it doesn't take long to realize this song found it's beginning in this passage with some others.
There shall be showers of blessing: This is the promise of love;
There shall be seasons refreshing, Sent from the Savior above.
Refrain: Showers of blessing, Showers of blessing we need:
Mercy-drops round us are falling, But for the showers we plead.
There shall be showers of blessing, Precious reviving again;
Over the hills and the valleys, Sound of abundance of rain.
There shall be showers of blessing; Send them upon us, O Lord;
Grant to us now a refreshing, Come, and now honor Thy Word.
There shall be showers of blessing: Oh, that today they might fall,
Now as to God we’re confessing, Now as on Jesus we call!
There shall be showers of blessing, If we but trust and obey;
There shall be seasons refreshing, If we let God have His way.:
What can we learn from this song?
We learn our blessings come from God who loves us supremely.
We learn the Lord above sends us those blessings to revive us.
We learn these blessings can be expected (not demanded) based upon the promises of God.
We learn that blessing is found in obedience rather than disobedience.
Isn't the song much more meaningful when we take the time to understand what inspired its writing?
I want to ask you to meditate upon the great promise of Ezekiel 34:26, "...there shall be showers of blessing."
Psalm 115:12, "The LORD hath been mindful of us: he will bless us..."
Praise His Name!
Have a great day walking in praise and thanksgiving to the Saviour.

2. Who is the source of all blessings? Do you live anticipating the blessings of God upon your life?
3. How has a blessing from God revived your heart when you were discouraged?
