The Healing of the Gadaren Maniac
Mark 5:19-20, "...Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee. 20And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men did marvel."
Today's passage speaks of a man who was so untamable, because of numerous unclean spirits which possessed him, that chains and fetters could not contain him. Jesus brought healing to this man who is now described as "...sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind." (Mark 5:15) This man was a hard case for all, except for Jesus. Jesus' authority is apparent in this passage.
This man's bondage had been turned into freedom by the power of our Saviour. The maniac's gratitude was evident as He asked Jesus if he could follow with the other disciples. He was denied that privilege, but obeyed the command of Christ to go home to his friends and tell them how great things the Lord had done for him. "...He departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men did marvel."
People who are saved should be excited about what God has done, and is doing in their lives. Gratitude is best displayed through words and actions that speak of the greatness of our God and the never ending mercy that He extends to us. I trust that this day and every day will be a time of you and me telling others the great things the Lord has done for us.
Have a great day, telling others about the power and goodness of God.
