Have You Lost Your Savour?

Luke 14:34-35, "Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned?  It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear."

Jesus teaches a parable about salt that applies to the Christian life. A parable is an earthly story with a heavenly meaning.

Salt is used as a seasoning, with a two-fold purpose: it is used as a preservative and to give added flavor to food.  When the salt has lost its seasoning power Jesus says it isn't good for anything. As a believer, Jesus said in Matthew 5:13, "Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.” The word "savour" speaks of the salt’s power to preserve and the strength of its flavor.

We are to be SALT as believers. We are to be a Christian seasoning and influence upon the world in which we live.  I believe it is important to examine regularly if we are having any real impact on the lives of others.  May we not be Christians who live our lives with no real influence for the cause of Christ.  We should make a difference in the lives of others.

Let's do our best to impact the world for Christ.

Your Friend and HIS,

MEDITATIONS

1. Is it important to hear what Jesus is teaching and then abide by His teaching? How do you try to live in obedience to His Word?

2. How does your life influence others? Do you have a positive impact on God’s work or negative?

3. Is your life salty? Does it impart life-preserving power to others? How so?
