God's Infallible Word

Mark 13:31, "Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away."

In the midst of predicting the destruction of the Jewish temple and the promise of future tribulations upon the earth, Jesus declares the passing away of the heavens and the earth but affirms the infallible nature of the Word of God.  The word "infallible" means something is incapable of erring, having no ability of failure or error.  The Bible is without error and also is incapable of ever failing to exist.  God's Word is eternal and is forever settled in Heaven.

The destruction of the Jewish temple occurred in about 70 A.D. as a result of the invasion of the Roman General Titus.  2 Peter 3:12-13 speaks concerning the future demise of the heavens and the earth, "Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? 13Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness."  God's Word, however, will not pass away!!

Isaiah 40:8, "The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever."  Matthew 24:35, and Luke 21:33, echo the same thoughts as our text.  1 Peter 1:24-25, “For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.” Psalm 117:2, "...the truth of the LORD endureth for ever."

Thank God for His precious, infallible, eternal Word.  Take time daily to make the Word a part of your life.  Study it, memorize it, meditate upon it, and apply it, and live it!  You will be glad in doing so.

Your Friend and HIS,

Pastor Abbott
