Our Need to be Reminded

READ 2 Peter 1

2 Peter 1:12, "...I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth."

It is very possible for believers to live life carelessly.  We become complacent in our walk, and even forgetful of those basic truths of Scripture that we were initially taught as we were grounded in the Lord.  The Apostle Peter understood our need to be reminded and states in our text, "I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth."  Later in this same epistle he says, "...I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance: That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour" (2 Peter 3:1(a)-2).  The writer of Hebrews states, in Hebrews 2:1, "Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip."  We need to "heed," which means to give attention to what we have been taught from the Word of God and from sound Bible preaching.

Have you become careless in living your Christian life?  Every one of us need to do a daily examination of how we are walking and living life spiritually.  Remind yourself of what is right and godly, and thank God for others when they call you to a place of remembrance. They do so only because they don't want you to live life carelessly without thought for the things of the Lord who saved us and redeemed us.

God bless you as you walk in the light of His Word.

Pastor Abbott
