READ 1 Corinthians 11:23-31

Today is Memorial Day, a day when we remember all those who have given their lives in service for our Country.  Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day.  The graves of those soldiers who had died during the Civil War would be decorated as a means of remembering their sacrifice.  Memorial now, is a day to honor all U.S. veterans who have sacrificed their lives in service for our country.  My heart is filled with gratitude for every soldier who has given their lives in service for our country.  I pray today for every family who had a loved one who passed in service for our country.

The ultimate expression of love and dedication is the giving of one’s life in place of another.  Paul wrote of this fact in Romans 5:6-8, “For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 7For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. 8But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

I want to thank Jesus Christ for His sacrifice on the Cross for my sins.  Today’s text speaks of the communion service which God has given to His church as an ordinance to remember the sacrifice of His Son who willingly laid down His life for us.  

1 Corinthians 11:24-25, “And when He (Jesus) had given thanks, He brake it (the bread), and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. 25After the same manner also He took the cup, when He had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.”

Make sure that this day is filled with thanksgiving as you remember those who have sacrificed their lives for each of us.
