GOD'S PLAN AND THE WORLD'S WAY

READ Titus 1

Titus 1:15-16, "Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure: but even their mind and conscience is defiled. 16They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate."

As I read this morning, I was reminded of the stark difference between those who truly know the Lord and those who make a false profession.  You will make the greatest impact by having a testimony consistent with the Word of God.  The World's Way is to profess they know God and yet their works are not just inconsistent but are a denial of Him.  It is easy to say that you "know God". It is quite another thing to live consistent with that testimony. God's plan for us includes a life filled with good works.  Notice the following verses in Titus and allow them to speak to you about your life and what it conveys.

  • Titus 2:14, speaks of Jesus, "Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people zealous of good works."

  • Titus 3:8, "This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men."

  • Titus 3:14, "And let ours also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses, that they be not unfruitful."

We are not saved by works, but we are consistent in our testimony when good works are present and real in our daily lives.  What kind of good works are part of your profession?  For without them you may be presenting a testimony that denies the very presence of God in your life.

MEDITATIONS

1.  What are some obvious differences between people who are lost and those who are genuinely saved?

2.  Why is it so important for you to live a life consistent with what the Bible teaches?

3.  James speaks about how he would demonstrate his faith by his works.  What does that mean?

4.  Are there any good works in your life that reflect that you are saved?  What are those good works?
