THE GOOD WORKS OF THE BELIEVER
READ Titus 3
Titus 3:8, “This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.”
Paul told Titus to affirm constantly the truths that have been expressed in his epistle. In verse eight he teaches, “…that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works.” The final statement in this verse is noteworthy, “These things are good and profitable unto men.”
Because God’s mercy and grace experienced in salvation are so wonderful, we are taught to do good works, not to get saved, but because we are saved. This is such a wonderful way to bring honor to God and to demonstrate the genuineness of our salvation.
Ephesians 2:8-10 states, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God. 9Not of works, lest any man should boast. 10For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works; which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” (See also 1 Timothy 1:9)

MEDITATIONS
1. What are we to be constantly affirming?
2. How can you be careful to maintain good works?
3. We don’t work to get saved, but we work because we are saved. How does your life reflect this reality?
4. If you are saved, you are created in Christ Jesus unto good works. Can you be right with God if there are no good works in your life? Are you right with God? Explain.
