HOW SOME AVOID THE TRUTH

Good Morning,

Jeremiah 36:22-24, "Now the king sat in the winter house in the ninth month: and there was a fire on the hearth burning before him. 23And it came to pass, that when Jehu'di had read three or four leaves, he cut it with the penknife, and cast itinto the fire that was on the hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was on the hearth. 24Yet they were not afraid, nor rent their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants that heard all these words."

Jehoi'akim, king of Judah, was one who didn't like the truth concerning God's judgment upon his kingdom. Jeremiah, the prophet, had written in a book what the Lord had said to him and those things were later read to the king as he sat in his winter house. As Jehudi began reading, the king took a penknife and cut the book into pieces along its columns and burned it in a hearth before them.

Actions speak volumes, the king showed his disdain for God's word by cutting the book and then burning it in the fire. This is full evidence of an ungodly mind; a clear proof of the hatred of the heart against God, and of its indignation against his word and servants; and a vain attempt to invalidate the divine predictions in it, or avert the judgments which it threatened to bring upon the nation and King Jehoi'akim.

See, our actions never change what the Word of God says, or the fulfillment of it. Sometimes people act in strange ways to avoid the truth. Some just don't listen, some disagree, some cut it with a knife and burn it. What does Jesus say about His Word? "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away." - Matthew 24:35 People can ignore it, reject it, cut it and burn it, but it will stand forever.

Let's cherish the Word of God, read it daily,  and obey it always.

Hope to see you this evening in church.
