Proverbs 21:4
Good Morning,
I hope you had an enjoyable weekend and were both challenged and blessed through your attendance at church. Again, if you would, please pray for our revival meetings April 22-26.
Our focus this morning is upon Proverbs 21:4, "An high look, and a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked is sin."
Three items of note are listed in today's verse, all of which is sin.
- A high look - the appearance of one who elevates himself. One who is haughty. The word "high" speaks of haughtiness, while the word "look" speaks of outward appearance.
- A proud heart - a heart that lives outside of boundaries. Pride puts self in charge. The root of the word "proud" speaks of something broad or wide. This is one living outside the boundaries of God's Word.
- Wicked works - the actions of one who continues to sin. He is plowing away in the field of wickedness.
Regarding a high look and a proud heart, John Gill said, “The former is a sign of the latter, and commonly go together, and are both abominable to the Lord.”
God states that He will not enable someone who has a high look and a proud heart (See Psalms 101:5). In Proverbs 6:16,17, the Bible states, "These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto Him 17 A proud look..."
God detests arrogance and a superior, lord-it-over-others attitude. God is not impressed with high looks, proud hearts, or wicked works. All is sin and an abomination to Him.
May we seek to live life with a humble spirit and seek to be a servant to all.
God bless you as you engage in living for the Lord.
Your Friend and HIS,
Pastor Abbott
