Are You Doing Well?

This verse was addressed to Cain, the first man born to Adam and Eve. It didn't take long for mankind to mess up. Eve sinned in the Garden, then Cain her first born becomes so angry with God  that he kills his brother Abel. God had asked Cain why he was so wroth or angry in Genesis 4:6. Cain was angry because God didn't overlook his disobedience. 1 John 3:12(b) tells us why Cain killed his brother, "...Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous."

If you are doing well then you are doing what God expects of you. You are doing what is right in God's eyes, and you will never be rejected. But if you are not doing well, or right, then sin is lying at the door waiting to pounce on you to destroy you. You see, Cain had not brought the type of sin offering commanded by the Lord, when his brother Abel, had done what God commanded. God has always dealt with sin the same way, and that is through the shedding of blood. Cain brought some garden produce, while his brother brought a sacrifice that was of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof (Genesis 4:4).  Also, it is to be noted that God also was offering Cain an opportunity to get right.  The idea in Genesis 4:7 is not only a choice about right and wrong, but also that God will forgive our sin if we deal with it.  The phrase "sin lieth at the door" has the idea that a sin-offering was waiting for Cain, if he would accept God's way.

Why do we not obey God and do well? It is because of our own personal pride. We want to do things our way and not God's way. I don't know one Christian who is perfect, but I know many who do their best to do what is right, to do well.

May we do the things that God desires, for His honor and glory! Otherwise, sin lies at the door, and is waiting to pounce upon you like a roaring lion.

2.  Are you willing to repent of any known wrong in your life?

3.  Do you realize God is merciful and long-suffering toward each one of us?
