You Cannot Hide

Jeremiah 23:24, "Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD."

One of the great teachings of the Bible is that God is omnipresent. Don't let the word "omnipresent" scare you! It is a theological term that means God is everywhere present at one and the same time in the fullness of His being. God isn't stretched out like a piece of silly putty with a little portion of Him being in every place. NO, HE IS EVERYWHERE IN HIS FULLNESS, HE IS TOTALLY EVERYWHERE! He is omnipresent.

The truth of God's omnipresence brings two things to light in our lives. One is He is there to guide you, to protect you, to provide for you. The other truth is He sees everything you do, both bad and good. Proverbs 15:3, "The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good."

In the previous verse (vs. 23) the Bible says, "Am I a God at hand, saith the LORD, and not a God afar off?" What is God saying? He is teaching us that He sees both near and far. If I'm in Brownsburg He sees me. If I go to Texas, He sees me. If I go to California, He sees me. The latter portion of verse 24 reminds us, "Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD." The whole universe is filled by God's presence!

One last passage to remind us of the omnipresence of the LORD, Psalm 139:7-12, "Whither shall I go from thy Spirit?  Or whither shall I flee from thy presence?  If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me. If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me. Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee." Remember We Cannot Hide! And I'm glad because I don't want to. God is everywhere present, what a blessing. Have a great day enjoying His presence.
