Calling Unto God
Jeremiah 33:1-3, "Moreover the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah the second time while he was yet shut up in the court of the prison, saying, Thus saith the LORD the maker thereof, the LORD that formed it, to establish it; the LORD is his name; Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not."
The third verse is a great verse with a tremendous promise. This verse was spoken to Jeremiah who had been thrown into prison by King Zedekiah of Judah. Jeremiah was placed into prison because the King didn't like what he (Jeremiah) prophesied (see Jeremiah 32:1-5). But imagine the positive impact these words had upon God's prophet while in prison. Call unto me is God's challenge and directive to Jeremiah. God is telling His prophet to cry out to Him, to pray to Him, and the Lord promised He would answer Jeremiah. This is not a promise of Jeremiah dictating circumstances to God, otherwise, Jeremiah would not have been in prison. However, it is a promise to Jeremiah and one that is applicable to all of God's children that states, by asking, God will show us great and mighty things of which we are unaware.
The Bible is a great book for many reasons, but one of the reasons is because of the great and mighty things of which it makes us aware. How about prayer and the place it plays in making us aware of great and mighty things? Often, we do not grow in our spiritual walk with God because we don't call unto Him. We need to be crying out to God on a daily basis. The promise is clear, if we will do so, God will show us great and mighty things that we didn't know.
May we all spend time daily, on our knees, before our God. It will be a life-changing experience.

MEDITATIONS
1. What do the words “Call unto me” mean to you?
2. What is one of the first things you should do when facing a trial?
3. Why do we not see more great things than might be possible?
