Enquiring of the Lord

2 Samuel 2:1, "And it came to pass after this, that David enquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up into any of the cities of Judah? And the LORD said unto him, Go up. And David said, Whither shall I go up? And he said, Unto Hebron."

If you recall, David has been displaced from Israel living in Ziklag. Now that Saul is dead, and David lamented his death, David is seeking direction from the Lord about what to do. David enquired of the LORD seeking if he should go up into any of the cities of Judah and God gave him instruction to go up to the city of Hebron.

To know and understand the will of God we need to be a praying people who enquire of the LORD. So few Christians take the time to pray, and even fewer people take the time to ask God for direction in their lives. Most, if they pray, are asking God for something they want. I wonder how often we have missed the will of God because we failed to ask for direction? To know and realize God's best for our lives we need to be asking God for guidance. If you were to seek the Lord about attending church, what do you think He would lead you to do?  Seeking Him about witnessing, about Bible study, about your prayer life etc.  We need to make sure God directs our lives through prayerful surrender and obedience to Him.

Psalm 32:8, "I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye." May we inquire of the LORD and not miss the blessing of His leadership. "For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name's sake lead me, and guide me." Psalm 31:3
