A Priority and Respect For God and His House

1 Chronicles 17:1, "Now it came to pass, as David sat in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, 'Lo, I dwell in an house of cedars, but the ark of the covenant of the LORD remaineth under curtains'."

David was enjoying the comforts of home when he conveyed to Nathan the prophet what he perceived to be an inequality.  He was living in a house of cedars when the ark of the covenant (of the LORD) remained in a tent.  We must be certain our lives are lived in balance and with priorities.  Shouldn't we have the kind of heart that desires to elevate God and humble ourselves? David desired to build a house for the ark that would do away with this inequality. He would not be given the privilege, but his son Solomon would have the honor of doing so.  1 Chronicles 17:12, "He (Solomon) shall build me an house, and I will stablish his throne for ever."

If you recall from yesterday's reading, there was great jubilation with the ark of the covenant simply being brought back to the city of Jerusalem, but now David entertains what he can do next to continue to show a priority and respect for the LORD and His House.  We can't be satisfied with what we did yesterday, or last week, or a month ago, a year ago etc.  No, we must daily consider God's will as it relates to priorities and accomplishments for His glory.

I close with this question; what are you planning on doing today to show God's preeminence and the respect you should have for Him and His House?  "And He is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things He might have the preeminence." (Colossians 1:18)

Let's make sure not to elevate ourselves above the LORD or the things of the LORD.  God and His house should be greater than our house.
