WAIT AND RESPOND IN A GODLY MANNER
Read Proverbs 20:21-30
Proverbs 20:22, "Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the LORD, and He shall save thee."
Unfortunately, there is a me-first attitude in the hearts of many people, including those who know Christ as their Savior. How do you respond when someone hurts you or speaks evil about you? The natural tendency is to get even or retaliate. It is simple to understand the teaching of this proverb, but obeying it is another matter. As stated, we live in a payback society. "You wronged me; therefore, I'm going to wrong you!" Yet this is not wise, nor is it the way God prescribes us to respond. We are commanded to wait on the LORD, He sees and knows all, and allow Him to take care of the matter.
Romans 12:17 simply states, "Recompense to no man evil for evil." While Romans 12:19 teaches, "Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord." The godly teaching in all three of these verses is to allow God to work things out. Additionally, when God works things out, things are right thereafter. When we attempt to get even, there is nothing but trouble which follows. Determine in your heart to surrender to the truth of these verses and trust the Lord to do the right thing. You will be glad you did!

MEDITATIONS
1. How have things worked out for you when you responded in haste?
2. Why do you believe it is so hard to respond in a Christlike manner when hurt or mistreated?
3. How does haste impact relationships?
4. How does waiting upon the Lord influence relationships?
