PATIENCE IN COMMUNICATION

Read Proverbs 29:1-13

Notice the word of Proverbs 29:11, "A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards."

Communicating is a foundation to any healthy and lasting relationship.  This verse contrasts the communication of a fool with that of a wise person.

"A fool uttereth all his mind..." The fool speaks without thought.  He tells you everything he thinks no matter what.  Fools let it all out.  As a matter of fact, Proverbs 29:20, tells us there is more reason for hope for a fool than one who is hasty in his words.  "Seest thou a man that is hasty in his words? There is more hope of a fool than of him."

A wise person does exactly the opposite, he doesn't speak until he knows the facts, until he has his emotions under control, and he can express himself in a clear and calm manner.  James speaks to this issue when he states, "...let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:  20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God."  You have probably heard the old adage, "We have two ears, and one mouth, and they should be used in that proportion."  Don't allow your emotions to drive you to say things you will later regret.  Develop spiritual discipline so you won't appear to be foolish when you speak.  Words are powerful and should be well chosen.

Have a great day as you practice patience and wisdom in your speech.
