HELPING OTHERS IN THE FAITH
READ ACTS 18
Acts 18:27-28, "And when he (Apollos) was disposed to pass into Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him: who, when he was come, helped them much which had believed through grace: 28For he mightily convinced the Jews, and that publicly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was Christ."
I like the description given in Acts 18:24-26, concerning the life, the actions, and the purpose of Apollos. He is described as being a Jew, born in Alexandria, eloquent, and mighty in the Scriptures. He was fervent in spirit and taught diligently the things of the Lord. He spoke boldly in the synagogue. Also, he was teachable. He was helped by the ministry of Aquila and Priscilla, the Bible says, "...they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly."
Apollos continued to grow and impact the Lord's people. Today's verse characterizes his ministry:
He helped people much. The word "much" is quantitative. Do you help people much or little?
He was mightily used to convince others. Are you able to give the Word of God to others in a manner that answers their questions biblically and convincingly? (See 1 Peter 3:15)
He was a student of the Scriptures, proving the deity and Messiahship of Jesus.
God desires to use each one who knows Him as Savior to be a help and blessing to others. This is the heart of edification. You must edify yourself which in turn will help you edify others. Strengthening and building your own heart will allow you to then strengthen and build up others for Jesus.
Don't be passive in your service for Jesus. Get on the firing line! Grow yourself and help others also to grow in the faith.
