God's Power In Us

Ephesians 3:20-21"Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen."

God desires to use us for His glory. As believers, we have, within us, the greatest power available to man, and that is God the Holy Spirit.  The word "power" in this verse is the Greek word "dunamis", which is power that operates inherently in someone or something.  God the Holy Spirit is powerfully at work in the life of the believer, and by tapping into His power we are able to "...do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think..."

We need to live faithfully, depending upon the Spirit of God to do these mighty deeds.  Our desire for His power to work through us is twofold:

  • First, to experience Him working through us.  This requires a spirit yielded and surrendered to the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 5:18)

  • Next, to see the Lord glorified in the church.  This requires our best effort in Christian service and ministry, it requires our having a sweet and loving spirit, it requires an atmosphere of praise directed to the Lord, and unity in the body of Christ.  With this, God will be glorified in the church!

Let's determine daily to walk in the power of the Holy Spirit rather than in our own fleshly strength.

2. How does the Holy Spirit work through you?

3. Do you live your life so that the Holy Spirit can work through you? Explain.

4. Contrast the fruit of the Spirit with that of one’s self-effort.
