A GOOD CONSCIENCE IS ALWAYS READY TO GIVE AN ANSWER

1 Peter 3:15-16, "But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asks you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ."

I love the encouragement given to every believer in verse 15. We are to be ready to give an answer to every man that asks us a reason of the hope that is in us. People whose conscience is defiled are those who don't want to answer much of anything. They typically want to avoid questions, so they don't have to conjure up an answer they know is lame and sometimes even deceitful.

I'm glad and ready to answer people when they want to know why I believe as I do and why I do what I do. It is because to the best of my ability I try to live in obedience to God's Word. There are times I fail, but God knows I try to do my best to obey Him, to glorify Him, and worship Him. Abraham Lincoln was once quoted, "An honest man need not fear an investigation." A man with a good conscience doesn't have to hide from the questions of people, he can answer with honesty and integrity, with meekness and fear (respect).

Do you try to avoid being around people who ask you questions about your walk with God? The reason may be your conscience is defiled and you are trying to hide behind some sin. Another reason may be that you haven't been a student of the Word of God, and you really don't know how to biblically defend your position.  In either case, make sure, to be honest with God and others. It will give you the ability to "be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear."
