A Good Conscience is Always Ready to Give an Answer

READ 1 Peter 3

1 Peter 3:15-16, "But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: 16 Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ."

I love the encouragement given to every believer in verse 15. We are to be ready to give an answer to every man that asks us a reason of the hope that is in us. People whose conscience is defiled are people who don't want to answer much of anything. They typically want to avoid questions, so they don't have to conjure up an answer they know is lame and sometimes even deceitful.

I'm glad and ready to answer people when they want to know why I believe as I do and do what I do. It is because to the best of my ability I try to live in obedience to God's Word. There are times I fail, but God knows I try to do my best to obey Him, to glorify Him, and worship Him. Abraham Lincoln was once quoted, "An honest man need not fear an investigation." A man with a good conscience doesn't have to hide from the questions of people, he can answer with honesty and integrity with meekness and fear (respect).

Do you try to avoid being around people who ask you questions about your walk with God? The reason is your conscience is defiled and you are trying to hide behind some sin. Make sure to be honest with God and others. It will give you the ability to "be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear."
