God’s Record Concerning Eternal Life
READ 1 John 5
Our focus this morning comes from an exciting portion of Scripture about God's witness concerning the gift of eternal life, which is made possible through His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. 1 John 5:9-12, "If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which He hath testified of His Son. 10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made Him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of His Son. 11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life."
vs. 9 - "If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which He hath testified of His Son."
God's witness is superior to the witness of individuals. Each day we accept the words of others. God never exaggerates or twists the facts; He never lies or deceives. What God says is always true; it is the plain and simple truth. Therefore, God's record about His Son should be believed. Every human being should believe God's record of His Son.
vs. 10 - "He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made Him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of His Son."
God's witness lives within the heart of the believer. When a person believes in the Son of God, God implants the witness of God within him. What is that witness? It is the Spirit of God Himself. The Holy Spirit seals and guarantees the believer, gives him assurance that Jesus Christ has saved him from sin, death, and condemnation and has made him acceptable to God. If a person does not believe the witness of God—all the great witnesses that God has given—if a person does not believe that God has sent His Son into the world to save man, then that person is in effect saying that the record is a lie. But note: God did send His Son, and God has borne witness to the truth.
vs. 11 & 12 - "And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son."
God's witness is clear and plain. He has given us eternal life in His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
“He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life."
The person who has the Son has life, but the person who does not have the Son does not have life.

MEDITATIONS
1. Has God ever lied to you? Have you ever disproved God's Word?
2. How about men? Have they ever lied to you? With all the failings of men, why do some people still find it easier to believe other men than God?
3. What conclusions might you make about a person who rejects the witnesses God has given? Have you accepted God's witness concerning His Son?
4. Why do you think God made His witness so clear and simple? Can you share the gospel in a way that even a child can understand? Can you improve in this area?
