THE BELIEVER'S DILEMMA AND WILLINGNESS

READ Philippians 1:22-30

Paul expresses what I refer to as the believer’s dilemma in Philippians 1:23, “For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better.”  Being with Christ in heaven is far better than remaining on this sin-cursed planet, living in the midst of darkness and delusion. The system under which the world operates is led by Satan and is in opposition to God and His rule.  Therefore, Paul’s dilemma is our dilemma, whether to continue living here on earth or to depart and be with Jesus forevermore.

Paul’s decision should be our decision.  What did he decide?  He would remain so he could serve others sacrificially for the cause of Christ.  Notice Philippians 1:24-25, “Nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more needful for you. 25And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide and continue with you all for your furtherance and joy of faith.”

We must be dedicated as believers to live out our lives to the very end striving to help people to grow in their faith walk.  As the Scripture infers in Luke 19:13, we should occupy until Jesus comes again.  The word “occupy” in Luke 19:13 has the sense of doing business.  May we do God’s work until He returns!

MEDITATIONS

1.  For now, God has allowed you to remain in this world for a purpose.  How do view your purpose in the world?

2.  What things tend to get in the way of your service and sacrifice to the Lord?

3.  Is there anything that needs to change in you for there to be a greater desire to serve and sacrifice?  If so, what?

4.  Are there some things you need to sacrifice so you can fully serve the Lord and His people?
