Song of Solomon
As we make our way into the Song of Solomon and I want to share with you what Dr. C. I. Scofield says in his introductory notes to this book. "The book is the expression of pure marital love as ordained by God in creation... Its interpretation is threefold: (1) as a vivid unfolding of Solomon's love for a Shulamite girl; (2) as a figurative revelation of God's love for His covenant people, Israel, and (3) as an allegory of Christ's love for His heavenly bride, the Church."
I believe this short introduction will help you as you navigate through this particular book of the Bible.
I am going to do something a little different today, and that is to simply list some verses that spoke to my heart about the relationship that I enjoy personally with the Lord. Again, this book speaks of marital love as expressed in the Bible, but obviously I am viewing these verses thinking of the love Jesus has for me, and the love I possess for Him. You can make the applications that you desire, I simply want to list the verses that spoke to me this morning.
Song of Solomon 1:4, "Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers: we will be glad and rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love thee."
Song of Solomon 2:1, "I am the rose of Sharon and the lily of the valleys."
Song of Solomon 2:4, "He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love."
Song of Solomon 2:16, "My beloved is mine, and I am his: he feedeth among the lilies."
There are many things I could say about each of these verses but let me simply express that each one of these verses speak to me about the joyful, personal, relationship I have with the Lord. God's love is amazing, and without limits. May you rejoice in His love for you, because, as George Beverly Shea, would sing, "NO ONE EVER CARED FOR ME LIKE JESUS!"
Have a great day rejoicing in the Father's never-ending love!
Your Friend and HIS,
Pastor
