The Strength of Love
Song of Solomon 8:6-7, "Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame. Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned."
These verses spoke to my heart this morning reminding me of the strength of agape love. "Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as death..." Love is viewed as a power that is universal, and it is seen as strong as death itself. Jesus loved His disciples and loves us also. He was willing to die for them, for you, and for me. You see, love is as strong as death!!! John 10:15, “ As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep." Notice now John 10:18, "No man taketh it [Jesus' life] from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again..." Love caused Jesus to determine to die. Yes, the will of the Father also came into play as a determining factor in the death of Christ, but how He loves you and me!!! Love is as strong as death!!! John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son..."
Love is stronger than the difficulties of life. Trials and tribulations are no match for love. "Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it..." True love, genuine love, agape love is never hindered or impacted by the trials, difficulties, and tribulations of life. LOVE IS STRONGER THAN LIFE'S TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS.
Love cannot be bought, the affections are not excited in that manner. Old men thinking they can buy the love of a younger woman are not wise. That type of love is contemned, it is viewed in a contemptible and insignificant light. "...if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned." Give me agape love, the divine love of God which chooses to love without any guarantee of return. That love cannot be quenched!!!
May we thank God for His love today and every day!

Meditations
1. Read Romans 5:8 and explain how this verse demonstrates love is stronger than death.
2. Has anyone ever pulled you forward by loving you unconditionally? What did they do to help?
3. Read 1 Peter 1:18-19. Can one buy God’s love? What has God’s love done for you?
