The Old Paths Are God's Ways

Jeremiah 6:16, "Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein."

You can't have a path unless someone made it.  You have seen them.  Sometimes people cut across yards and in time they make a path.  Sometimes deer take a certain way, and before you know it they have made a path.  In our houses, you can see traffic patterns or paths.

In this case, God's people had left the way they used to live.  They were people who loved Him and were totally devoted to Him.  They walked in the paths He had prescribed.  However, they had strayed from his paths and refused to return.  The old paths brought rest, both spiritually and physically.  But now they were living lives of unrest.  Enemies were invading their land and God's hand of blessing had been removed.  God through His prophet was telling them to go back to the old paths, but they didn't listen.

Maybe there is a path you have left.  One that you know was the right path, a good path, a godly path.  Look at your life today and see if there are any old paths you need to return to.  The old paths are good paths.  They come with rest and God's rich blessings.  Proverbs 4:25-27, "Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee. Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.  Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil."
