In What Do You Glory?
Jeremiah 9:23-24, "Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: but let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise loving-kindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD."
All of us have things we like to brag about. It could be our favorite sports team, our knife or gun collection, our vintage car, our great bowling score, a big house in a fancy neighborhood, etc. But today's verses speak to us about the ONE THING God says it is okay to brag about. That is to brag about our relationship with Him and the things He has taught us.
Again, notice in the text that which we are not to brag about. The wise man isn't allowed to glory (to brag about or praise) in his wisdom, the mighty or strong man isn't allowed to glory in his might or strength, and the rich man isn't allowed to glory in his riches. We often esteem things that God says we shouldn't esteem.
We need to purpose in our hearts to brag about the Lord. To exalt Him and what He has done for us in spite of who we are. We can brag about knowing the Lord. That means we can brag about having a definite relationship with Him. We can brag about the fact we have some understanding of Him. Understanding is realized through having a relationship with God in His Word, in prayer, and daily acknowledgments of Him at work in us and our circumstances. We learn the things about God as the Holy Spirit teaches us. We learn things about God like His lovingkindness, His judgment (verdicts or choices) and His righteousness upon the earth. These are things that God delights in and says it is okay to brag about.
Let's brag about the Lord as we live our lives on this earth!
