Resting in God
2 Chronicles 32:7-8, "Be strong and courageous, be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude that is with him: for there be more with us than with him: 8 With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah."
The strong Assyrian army led by Sennacherib came to terrify and overthrow the children of Judah. There was one obstacle that stood in the way of his success however, it was the faith possessed by King Hezekiah and his followers in the power and ability of Jehovah God. Is there really anything to fear for those who trust in the LORD with all their heart? Hezekiah made it clear, Sennacherib was depending upon an arm of flesh, while the children of Judah received the testimony of Hezekiah who stated they had "...the LORD our God to help us, and to fight our battles." Verse 8 concludes, "...And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah."
Our faith is under constant attack by the enemy and is being tested by our God who wants us to continually grow in faith trusting Him. How do you respond when faced with a difficult circumstance? Do you become troubled and uneasy or do you rest in the power and love of God? Let me close with a couple verses this morning that come to mind:
John 14:1, "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me."
2 Corinthians 10:4, "For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds."
Our great need is to trust in God with all our heart, and rest in Him. May that be the manner in which we live our lives.
