Acknowledgement and Humility

Psalm 75:5-7, "Lift not up your horn on high: speak not with a stiff neck. For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another."

Today's passage begins with a command warning us against an attitude of superiority and haughtiness. A person who was stiff-necked was viewed as impudent and rebellious. The first great need in our society is for people to acknowledge the high and lofty position of God and to respond in humility to Him. What we see however in today's society is some being so arrogant as to even deny the existence of God, while they approach life with self-sufficiency and arrogance.

God is the judge, He puts down one and sets up another. James speaks of how we should approach life with acknowledgement and humility in James 4:13-16, "Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil."

Notice the words of Isaiah 57:15, "For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones." This is the spirit and attitude with which we should approach life!

Are you acknowledging God's high and lofty position? Are you living in humility? He is the Potter, I am the clay. Yield yourself humbly before God and He will promote you when He desires. 1 Peter 5:6-7, "Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you."

Have a great day acknowledging the Lord and walking humbly before Him.
