Payday Someday
Lamentations 2:17, "The LORD hath done that which he had devised; he hath fulfilled his word that he had commanded in the days of old: he hath thrown down, and hath not pitied: and he hath caused thine enemy to rejoice over thee, he hath set up the horn of thine adversaries."
I chose the title as I remembered a famous preacher named R.G. Lee who preached a message with the above title (from a different text). But I chose it primarily because I know one day as in all things the chickens do come home to roost.
Israel had walked and lived long enough in the multitude of her sins. God had now brought about the judgment He promised her and the great prophet Jeremiah is acknowledging their condition and remorse. I want you and me to see life through a biblical perspective. Always looking at life through the lens of Scripture. It wasn't by chance the people of Israel and Judah were in captivity, they were there because God had promised it. "The LORD hath done that which He had devised; He hath fulfilled His Word that He had commanded in the days of old: He hath thrown down, and hath not pitied: He hath caused thine enemy to rejoice over thee, He hath set up the horn of thine adversaries."
God is longsuffering and merciful, but He also is true to His Word. God keeps His promises both negative and positive. Moses of old had preached God's Word to the children of Israel. Deuteronomy 28:20, "The LORD shall send upon thee cursing, vexation, and rebuke, in all that thou settest thine hand unto for to do, until thou be destroyed, and until thou perish quickly; because of the wickedness of thy doings, whereby thou hast forsaken me." Jeremiah and the other prophets had also warned the people.
America is a nation that has forgotten to live with a biblical world view. We do what we please, and rarely consider if what we are doing is right and the consequences that accompany our actions.
Let's live our lives daily viewing life through the lens of God's Word. Let's also pray and work to see individuals come to a place where they too will look at life through God's eyes.
There is a Payday Someday, we just don't know when!
