Christ The Anointed Messiah
Matthew 1:16, "And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ."
Today's verse concludes a section of Scripture that presents the genealogy of Jesus through the life of Joseph. These genealogies are not just endless listings of names, but they have great purpose and intention. This genealogy intends to demonstrate the family and nation from which the Messiah would come. This adds proof to the fact that indeed Jesus, who was born of the virgin Mary, is God's Messiah.
C.I. Scofield writes on page 994, footnote 3, in Study Bible; "Christ, the Greek form of the Hebrew "Messiah" (Dan. 9:25,26), is the official name of our Lord, as Jesus is His human name (Lk. 1:31; 2:21). The name, or title, "Christ," connects Him with the entire O.T. view of a coming Prophet, Priest, and King.
Let's enjoy reading about God coming to this earth in the Person of our Lord Jesus Christ. Lord (He is our king and ruler Acts 10:36, and 17:24), Jesus (He is our Savior (Matthew 1:21), Christ (the anointed Messiah, used 500 times in the New Testament).
If you haven't placed your faith in the risen Christ for salvation take those steps to do so today (2 Corinthians 6:2).

MEDITATIONS
1. Why do you believe Matthew present a genealogy of Jesus through the person of Joseph?
2. What is the title given to Christ according to C.I. Scofield? What does this title mean?
3. How does the Lordship of Christ influence your life?
4. Have you trusted Christ as your personal Savior? When and where did this happen?
